ABOUT THE AUTHOR - BARBARA WALLIS
After retiring from a varied career in nursing and some dabbling in newspaper writing long, long ago, I decided to try my hand at writing a book. This, my first non-fiction work, is a book about the 1944 Hartford Circus fire, a collection of true stories from people who were there, knew others who were there or who due to extenuating circumstances would have been there, but weren’t. Included in the book will be my prize-winning essay, “A Day at the Circus (Fire).
The book is a work in progress and I am looking for your story. Where were you on that fateful day? Did you go to the circus? If so, will you share your story? Perhaps something happened to prevent you from going? What was it? How did you feel when you found you could not go? How did you feel when you found out what had happened? Do you know people who went? Do you know their story? Maybe I sound greedy but I want it all. I am interested in what you have to tell me. In 2014, it will be seventy years since the fire. Many of us will no longer be here to tell our stories. Let us gather them together now for our children and our grandchildren and their children. If you would like to know more about the circus fire and to hear my essay read out loud, please watch my YouTube Video. In this video I am being interviewed by Zita Christian who has a fantastic program where she talks with authors about their new books. To see the video, click on the YouTube icon:
